We are the hands of Jesus, reaching out to all people, with God’s love.
The Richland Methodists organized here in 1877, saved their members from traveling three miles to attend services in Fountain Head, and built their own worship sanctuary in 1882. The congregation grew up in Portland and merged with the Fountain Head congregation in 1927. Bishop Paul B. Kern dedicated the present building free of debt in August 1947 and renamed it McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church in honor of Bishop William McKendree at the juncture of Wheeler Street and Portland Boulevard." Our church embraces a deeply traditional style of worship that reflects reverence, beauty, and timeless faith. Services are centered around the rich heritage of hymnody, with congregational singing guided by classic hymnals. Music plays a central role in our worship, featuring the uplifting sounds of piano and the majestic presence of a beautiful pipe organ.
Our gatherings are structured, meaningful, and rooted in long-standing Christian traditions, offering a peaceful and reflective atmosphere where individuals and families can connect with God. For those seeking a worship experience grounded in history, dignity, and sacred music, our church provides a welcoming home.
We gladly welcome children. During our worship service, children’s church is provided, nurturing them to grow faithfully in Christ.
All are welcome to worship with us. While many dress in a traditional manner, there is no set dress code—we simply want you to feel at home.
